Barbara Phillips on Cows
We had about forty (cows) so we knew them. We knew them individually. We knew the mothers, the grandparents, you know, the grandmother. You know, we loved them and we used to look after them like you know, as you would, but they were all individuals.
We knew … You know, we knew them so well so we did our best to look after them. If when they’re calving they’re looking pretty sick, we’ll work on them …in the hope … like a vet or … and we’d get them breathing and yes, we really did … we really worked hard with a lot of them.
Looking after them … It’s lovely too, and we used to enjoy, you know you’d sort of … they’d been penned up for a while and you’d let them out and … jump around and it was … I’d say, “Don’t let them out yet, wait for me to get there. I want to see them go.”
It was lovely.
