There was a big improvement coming after the war you know, things were getting better.

It was getting noticeable. People were better off, you know, some working men were buying cars you know, the economy was on the move.

Houses were being built which soaked up a lot of labour which was better paid labour than farming was, and this sort of thing and there was more opportunities and things were moving on.
