We’re talking back in the 1950’s. I would have been about seven or eight when I started to milk the cows, with my father, and the stable could take at that time 30 cows, so they came in and were fed, and we milked them, and down at the end of the stable was a motorised engine.

I believe it was a Gascoigne engine, and this sent the vacuum through the pipes, and we milked the cows like that.

I’m sorry I’m not very technical, but it was my job to wash the cows’ udders and to milk them really.
